Shooting Incident Prompts Police Shutdown of 210 Freeway in Sylmar

A significant law enforcement operation disrupted traffic on the Interstate 210 on Tuesday afternoon after reports of a possible shooting in the Sylmar area prompted authorities to shut down a section of the busy roadway.

According to early reports from officials and traffic monitoring sources, emergency calls were received shortly after midday indicating a potential shooting along the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Sylmar. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded within minutes and immediately implemented a partial and then full closure of multiple lanes in order to secure the area and protect motorists.

The sudden shutdown caused immediate and severe traffic congestion, with vehicles brought to a complete standstill for miles in both directions in some stretches. Drivers reported being stuck in gridlock as law enforcement officers established a perimeter around the affected section. Some motorists were directed to exit the freeway or turn around at nearby off-ramps while the situation was assessed.

Authorities have not yet released confirmed details regarding the incident, including whether anyone was injured, the number of individuals involved, or whether a suspect has been identified or detained. Investigators from both the CHP and the Los Angeles Police Department were seen coordinating their response at the scene, while aerial units assisted in monitoring traffic and surveying the surrounding area.

As part of the investigation, paramedics were also dispatched as a precaution, although it remains unclear whether medical assistance was required. Officers were observed documenting the roadway, inspecting vehicles in the vicinity, and speaking with potential witnesses who were on the freeway at the time.

The Interstate 210 serves as a key commuter corridor connecting the San Fernando Valley with the Inland Empire, and the closure caused major disruption during peak travel hours. Officials advised drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes such as the 118 Freeway and local surface streets, which quickly became congested as traffic was diverted.

Investigations remain ongoing, and authorities have stated that the freeway will likely remain partially or fully closed until evidence is collected and the scene is cleared.
