Saskatoon Car Accident: SIRT Investigates Saskatoon Crash Involving Fleeing Driver, Corman Park Police Say
Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has launched an investigation into a serious vehicle collision in the Saskatoon area involving an incident that reportedly began with a police attempt to conduct a traffic stop, according to the Corman Park Police Service.
Authorities state that the event began when an officer observed a vehicle being driven in a manner that raised concern, prompting a traffic stop. Instead of complying, the driver allegedly fled, resulting in a brief pursuit. Officials have not yet disclosed the specific reason for the attempted stop, though such interventions are typically made in response to suspected traffic violations or unsafe driving behaviour.
Shortly after the vehicle fled, it was involved in a serious collision in the Saskatoon region. Emergency responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance, assess injuries, and secure the area. At this time, authorities have not confirmed the number of individuals injured or the severity of those injuries.
Because the incident involved police interaction followed by a serious crash, it was automatically referred to SIRT for independent review. The agency is mandated to investigate situations in which police actions may have contributed to serious injury or other significant outcomes, ensuring an external and impartial assessment.
Investigators are expected to examine multiple aspects of the case, including the circumstances surrounding the attempted traffic stop, the driver’s actions while fleeing, and the sequence of events leading to the collision. Evidence such as dash camera footage, witness statements, and scene reconstruction will form part of the inquiry.
Police have not released the identity of the driver, nor confirmed whether any charges have been laid. It also remains unclear whether other vehicles were involved or if bystanders were affected.
Officials have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation remains in its early stages. Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as emergency crews worked on scene.
SIRT is expected to provide further updates once preliminary findings are established.
