210 Freeway in Sylmar Shut Down Partially Following Reported Shooting and Police Response
A major disruption occurred on the Interstate 210 in the Sylmar on Tuesday afternoon after reports of a shooting prompted a large-scale law enforcement response and forced a full or partial closure of the roadway.
According to early information from officials and traffic monitoring services, emergency calls were received shortly after midday reporting a possible shooting along the eastbound lanes near Sylmar. In response, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived within minutes and immediately began securing the area. Multiple lanes were closed as authorities worked to control access and reduce risk to motorists.
The sudden shutdown caused severe traffic congestion, with vehicles brought to a standstill for miles in both directions in some sections. Drivers reported being trapped in gridlock as officers established a perimeter around the affected stretch of freeway. In some cases, motorists were directed to exit at nearby off-ramps or turn around to avoid the scene.
At this stage, officials have not released full details regarding the incident. It remains unclear whether anyone was injured, how many individuals may have been involved, or whether a suspect has been identified or taken into custody. Investigators from both the CHP and the Los Angeles Police Department were observed coordinating their response on site.
Aerial support units were reportedly used to assist with monitoring traffic flow and surveying the surrounding area, while paramedics were dispatched as a precaution. Authorities have not confirmed whether any medical treatment was required.
As the investigation progressed, officials expanded the closure to allow for evidence collection. Officers were seen documenting the roadway, inspecting vehicles, and speaking with witnesses who were present during the incident.
The Interstate 210 is a key commuter corridor, and the closure caused widespread delays during peak travel hours. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes such as the 118 Freeway and surface streets.
Authorities have stated the investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
